What better way to start off 2022 than talking about the color of the year. The color is called Pantone 17-3938 Very Peri. It is a beautiful blue, purplish, grey color and they say it’s the first time in history they have created a new color for the Pantone color of the year. So, what does this have to do with fashion? Everything! All the fashion brands are now going to incorporate this color into their designs if they have not already started doing so (I have already noticed this color in a few marketing emails I receive). Let’s prepare to wear this color in all seasons!
We will not be seeing much of this color for January and February as companies are now focusing on spring items. As for spring I am picturing a lot of matching athletic sets in this color. It seems so calming. And some lightweight sweatshirts to pair with your already beloved black athletic pieces or to pair with blue denim. Going in the same direction there will be many lightweight sweater options in this color. They will come in array of styles probably sticking with a lot of trends from last year, for instance puff sleeves and ruffles, and obviously the classic crew and V-neck sweaters will be available in this color. As for outerwear I imagine there will be some lighter utility style jackets in this color. And we cannot forget some colored denim. I am looking forward to trying some straight or boyfriend style jeans in this color and pairing with a white top to fully embrace the spring weather. In all honestly, Very Peri much resembles periwinkle to me, which I am sure is where they took inspiration from. Therefore I think this color will best be worn in Spring, but it does have a much softer side, so it can easily translate into all the other seasons.
As for summer this color will fare very well just like spring. I am envisioning this color on a silk midi skirt paired with espadrilles or dressed up with heels. Very Peri will look amazing on a silk midi dress too or will pair well with a floral-patterned dress from a loose to flowy fit and even a cool modern pattern fitted dress. Hinted at above this color will be great on sandals as it is a subtle pop of color and will pair well with most summer outfits. There are totally going to be some fun swimsuit styles in this color. Simply pair with your favorite neutral coverup and you are ready to go. For layering pieces, the most obvious option is a Very Peri colored denim jacket. Slip this on with your favorite neutral dresses for an updated summer 2022 look. And I am sure there will be a ton of shorts available in this color. There will of course be some linen pants in this color, think a straight or jogger style fit. As for tops it is so easy for this color to be in a tank, tee, or short sleeve blouse and it will look amazing with white denim or an off-white dress pant for work. I am getting excited for wearing this color in summer!
Now onto fall. I think the Very Peri loose fit denim will be a hit in this season as well, but pair them with a darker neutral top, for example a camel-colored sweater or a black sweater and booties will look great with these jeans. There are sure to be an abundance of cardigans in this color as well as your typical sweaters. Pair these with a darker colored pant or denim, so the outfit does not look like you are stuck in spring. As for dresses there are most likely going to be several long sleeve midi styles in Very Peri. And maybe even a funky boot will pop up in this color, which would be a fun option to pair with your favorite blue or black denim. For jackets this color would look great on a cotton trench (are the designers out there listening?!), oversized denim jacket for warmer climates, and even on a classic blazer for work or play. You simply need to make sure you are wearing Very Peri with darker colors in fall, as to not appear to have too springy of an outfit.
And now for winter. This seems so far away as we are currently still in winter, but I know it will be upon us in the blink of an eye as it feels like every year lately. The item I am most looking forward to seeing in this color for winter are puffer jackets. This will look adorable with a black athletic set and a short puffer style jacket. Or a longer style of this is perfect for everyday wear. An easy go-to for this season will be a Very Peri sweater dress. Hopefully in some wrap style options for a dressier look! Perhaps even a looser turtleneck style dress worn with your favorite pair of boots. For pants I can picture quite a few dress pants available in this color. This will be so easy to pair with neutral blouses or even a fitted mesh top for a trendier outfit. As for tops I can easily see there being puff sleeve and pussy bow blouses available in this color. Though I am looking forward to seeing some new styles hit the scene!
As far as accessories I know a top trend this year is going to be bold vibrant bags. So, if you are not ready to fully jump into this trend then a Very Peri colored bag will be your best bet. Pair with your white dress in summer and your camel coat in winter. Some sunnies in this color are sure to pop up too. If you are over the classic black and brown options out there, then this will be a fun yet not over the top color (hopefully) available. If you are not totally sold on this color then stick with the easiest and probably most inexpensive item of all, a scarf. You can wear a small silk scarf in the warmer months or tie around your bag. And, in the cooler months stick with a wool or cashmere scarf to bring your outfit up to date.
I am excited to try this color out. Most likely because I am a fan of purple, but Very Peri seems much easier to wear since it is more toned down. I cannot wait to style it this year and I am sure Very Peri will make its appearance in many more posts this year. To a Very Peri New Year!
