Okay, I am over it. Though winter weather may still be here I am ready to move on to spring. Not only for the weather, but because I want to be able to wear light layers. And what better way to talk about spring fashion then sweaters. More vibrant, lighter fabric, and a whole lot of happiness is coming with spring sweaters.
Let’s talk color. Okay, so spring this year is all about color. And, not just pastels, but more so bright, vibrant, happy colors. Think neon green, bright pink, orange, vibrant blue. Everyone is just in the mood for more color in their lives and this spring is the best time to introduce some fun colors into your wardrobe. I know it can be difficult stepping away from the winter neutrals (i.e. black, brown, burgundy etc.), but go with a vibrant white sweater if you cannot get yourself to wear something colorful. Honestly, I saw a beautiful bright purple sweater which inspired me to write this post. There is just something so fabulous about wearing vibrant sweaters. There are many ways to wear colorful sweaters without it looking obnoxious. For instance, if you love wearing navy opt for a bright blue sweater in a classic fit. And, if you cannot grasp wearing something super bright then stick with the traditional pastels. But take it to the next level by wearing a pastel sweater with a modern pattern, something a little inspiring. This is the year of breaking out of your comfort zone with fashion.
Now that you have a little idea of what sweater you may want to wear, we can move onto checking the box of fabric. Fabric for spring sweaters is one of the most important things to keep in mind when choosing which one you are going to go with. For goodness sakes you are probably not going to wear a wool sweater if you are in Austin, TX, but you may opt for an option with a little bit of wool if you are say up north somewhere in Minnesota, brrr. All I know is I am getting all my sweater wear in during spring because I am definitely not wearing sweaters in summer. So, for fabrics a 100% cotton will be your best bet. Then, there is linen. Linen is perhaps the most breathable, but I don’t love the look of linen sweaters, there is something about them that screams you live by the beach and if you don’t live by the beach then it just looks odd. But don’t get me wrong a linen sweater and some linen pants for a beach vacay is where it is at. If you don’t want to do 100% linen for the reason I mentioned, then go with a linen blend option. The “linen” look is more subtle when it is a blend. And the last choice you would want to opt for is a polyester blend. DO NOT where a 100% polyester sweater in spring, gosh just thinking about it makes me hot. You will be sweating so much in a full polyester sweater. You should be okay with a polyester blend though. Alright, so depending on your climate you have picked out the best material for yourself, lets move on to style.
For spring there are styles of sweaters best suited for this season than per say your winter style sweaters. For example, leave the turtleneck sweaters behind in your winter wardrobe. I am not totally ruling out turtleneck sweaters for springtime, if it’s a cold day then that makes sense, but you are going to want something a little more relaxed and breathable during this season. You could do a loose turtleneck, but a better alternative would be a cowl neck sweater. I have seen some cool convertible cowl neck sweaters that can be worn off the shoulders too. I personally have never tried one of these on, so I am not sure how well this sweater actually looks on, but it sounds like a good idea. That brings me to my next style, a one shoulder sweater. Wear a loose one shoulder sweater with boyfriend jeans and a pair of sneakers for a casual day out. Or go with a more fitted option and some leather pants for an evening out. There are of course your classic crew and v-neck sweaters, but spice things up with a puff sleeve sweater this season. Puff sleeves can range from very minimal to extreme, so if you are someone who thinks it will make your shoulder look bigger then you can ease your way into the trend with a smaller puff sleeve option. Lastly, is a completely oversized sweater. A sweater so big you could wear it as a dress. Slip this on with a pair of leggings for a cozy running errands look. Alright, you are almost there. You have picked out the style of sweater you are going to wear now you must decide if you want a patterned option.
If you have not already gathered this info, this season is all about having some fun, so add a funky patterned sweater into your mix this year. If you want to go a little trendy, then stick with an argyle sweater. The whole academia fashion trend has you covered in this area. An argyle cardigan with a loose pair of jeans and sneakers for a casual day in the city. Next, is an option with a modern floral pattern. I have seen some beautiful sweaters with a few large florals on them. This is one you could snag in black and have the florals be the pop of color accent. And one I am a little surprised to see a lot of this season is embroidered sweaters. I feel as if this one came out of nowhere, but it is so adorable. If cutesy pieces, are your style then you are going to love this trend, and I think it is so fun for pairing with light wash jeans.
Woowee I think I covered all aspects of spring sweaters, but if I think of anything else I will add it in a future post. Now go snag some beautiful, vibrant sweaters for this season!
