Oh, my goodness, let’s talk about vacation! I have many of my clients going on tropical trips and asking for the ultimate vacay outfits. Here’s me hoping they can squeeze me in their luggage lol. Whether you are heading to Mexico, Florida, or the Bahama you will need a little refresh on your warm weather attire.
Now when it comes to these tropical trips it is your chance to go all out with vibrant colors. Say it louder for the people in the back! Have fun with color on your warm weather trips. I am talking orange, yellow, red, pink, purple, and a brighter blue. Of course, you can go with a classic white piece if you are not quite sold on the vibrant colors. Maybe pick a color scheme for your trip to make things easier on yourself or not if you are feeling all the colors of the rainbow. For instance, I would probably pick a bright blue and green color scheme or a white and pink scheme depending on my destination. Mix two of these brighter colors with a neutral (aka white) for an easy formula. Okay, you are all set with your colors now it is time to pick out some patterns.
When going on vacation you can get a little funky with patterns you may not have in your everyday wardrobe. For example, there have been some trending Hawaiian print patterns over the past few years. You can find this pattern on dresses, shorts, and button-down shirts. If you are going somewhere like Miami, maybe try a geometric pattern dress or matching set. Of course, you cannot go wrong with florals. Whether the pattern is big or small floral never seems to go out of style. And, not something you typically think of when you hear tropical vacation, but a leopard dress is such an easy option for an evening out and better yet you can easily wear it in your everyday life by slipping it on with a leather jacket. If you tend to steer clear of patterns that works too. You can have more fun with the colors! Let’s pick out some clothes now.
Beach bound, pool ready. It is time to put your swimsuit and coverup on. The simplest option for a coverup is a dress. One of the most popular options with my clients is a black breezy tank dress. This is simple and easy to throw on but let’s talk about something a little more fun. You can do a strapless maxi option with a cinched waisted in a vibrant pink or small floral patterned. A mesh geometric long sleeve minidress option if you are wanting something a little trendier. Or even a casual nautical striped coverup if you are going on vacay with the fam. My most favorite coverup option is probably a romper. I think a romper is a great option for going from say the beach to lunch. And how often can you wear rompers if you do not live in a warm climate, this is the perfect excuse to wear one! Then there are jumpsuits. If you are daring you can do a white jumpsuit, it will most likely be see through, but it is a coverup, so I guess that’s the purpose of it. I have seen some great black jumpsuit options that are like the dresses I mentioned above (strapless with a cinched waist). Oh boy I am ready for some fun in the sun.
For bottoms I am loving breezy pants or a classic pair of shorts. Let me say this once and one time only, you cannot go wrong with linen for warm weather trips. Grab yourself a pair of Rails linen pants and pair it with a tropical graphic tee, slides, and a pina colada. I attached a picture above of a matching linen set. The great thing about a set like that is you can pair the top with denim shorts and you can pair the pants with another tee or tank to get the most use out of your wardrobe. There are also some great jogger style linen pants if you are wanting something to pair with sneakers. Then there are shorts. Honestly for vacation I don’t really love denim shorts I would much rather wear some fun patterned or linen shorts. That just seems much more tropical to me.
You’ve picked out the bottoms for your trip, now you are ready to snag some tops. You can stick with an easy cotton tank but come on now is the time to be a little more adventurous. Go with a tropical pattern button down and white linen pants, matching shorts, or denim shorts. A colorful vertical stripe button down is also a great option. A dip dye tank or blouse if you want something sleeveless. And, if you are looking for something classic just go with a simple vibrant tee in a yellow, red, or whatever bright color you prefer. With tops you just want to keep things light and airy.
My absolute favorite, the dress. Dresses are just so easy to throw on during vacation. The simplest option is a t-shirt dress. This cotton option is perfect for throwing on with Birkenstocks for a casual day out. Next, is a breezy midi dress. Stick with a classic white dress or striped option with this. And, for my top choice a mini floral dress. There are so many varieties to this dress. You can go strapless, one shouldered or off the shoulder, I could go on and on. The great thing about this dress is you can easily take it from day to night. Wear it with sneakers and sandals during the day and dress up with a heeled sandal at night. There are many more dress options, but those are the three I would stick with for ease of packing.
Lastly, we cannot forget accessories. With this too there are so many different pieces you can bring, but for the sake of not packing overweight luggage I will mention only two. First off is the packable hat (straw or even bucket). There are so many varieties, color, and style wise that you should not have a problem finding one that fits your style. And, then there is a straw clutch. I think these are so fun for vacation outfits. You can splurge or find one under $100. These are great for brunch to pool looks or for a night out. Now that you have put the finishing touches to your outfits you are ready to go.
Do you have any favorites you look forward to wearing on vacation? I would love to hear about those pieces!
