Winter Dresses

Happy New Year! Boy that came and went. I had high hopes of writing a post the past week but was spending time with family and simply relaxing. Now I am back to writing and oh so excited for today’s topic of dresses! Sometimes we tend to avoid dresses in the winter because the weather is so cold, but there are so many options available to wear, and many warmer dresses for those chilly days.

First and foremost is the warmest option, the sweater dress. A sweater dress comes in all styles and colors. These styles can work for an evening out, date night, casual every day or business formal attire. The most casual option will be a looser fit, and most likely above the knee or midi length. With the shorter style you can wear a chunky boot, but if you want to dress it up you can pair with a knee-high boot! And, if you are looking for versatility then add a belt for a more fitted look. For the midi length you can pair that too with a heeled knee-high boot or even an on-trend cowboy boot for the season. Then there is the fitted sweater dress. Imagine a bodycon style dress in sweater material. These are often the thinnest of all sweater dresses. Currently I am sending a lot of midi length bodycon options with a high slit for a date night look. And the shoes to pair it with…you guessed right, a knee-high heeled boot. For the dressiest of them all go with a fit and flare midi length dress. Imagine this in a forest green or an ivory and paired with a heel for work. Or go for a sleeveless sheath sweater dress and pair it with a blazer for work. This option will likely have a mock or turtleneck for an effortlessly chic work outfit. Now you are ready to hit the streets in style and comfort!

And, then there was the t-shirt dress. The infamous t-shirt dress is known for being an easy-go to for a dreaded hot summer day; however, you can pick this dress up in a long sleeved or even longer length option. If you are in a warmer climate go with a short sleeve midi t-shirt dress, and then pair with a leather or suede moto jacket for more of a winter feel! For a night out feel wear a long sleeved bodycon t-shirt dress and your favorite pair of boots. The most casual and perhaps coziest of them all is a longer t-shirt dress (can be past your knees, but probably not maxi length). Pair with an oversized teddy coat, and cowboy boots for a fun winter look. Gosh can you tell I have been watching a ton of Yellowstone. I have been loving the western inspiration from this show and am now wanting a pair of cowboy boots but have yet to pull the trigger. Now, I only need to find the perfect pair that I can easily slip on with these dresses! The t-shirt dress can be worn from the warmest to the coldest climates. But make sure you are sticking with winter colors otherwise you will be looking like a summer day when it may be snowing outside. Think black, baby blue, burgundy or a dark green.

Third, we have the shirtdress. I am not sure if I have mentioned this dress in a previous post, but a shirtdress is such an essential I could not leave it out of this post! A personal favorite I have been sending to my clients is a black subtle marble patterned long sleeve, midi length shirtdress. This versatile dress can easily be paired with heels or boots for work. Another favorite of mine for this season is a silky ivory colored long sleeve shirtdress that hits right above the knees. Pair with a coat and knee-high boots for a trendier workplace or a dinner out. If you are not familiar with a shirtdress it is a dress that draws its inspiration from a classic button down. Most shirtdresses will have a tie or cinched waist for a more feminine feel. There are looser options available, beware you do need to be careful with it looking like a nightgown if it is too loose. This style is super fun to pair with a belt for a little extra detail.

Lastly, this is a unique option if you are not wanting to buy a new dress for the season. Pair a slimming turtleneck top underneath your favorite sleeveless dress. This can be a little tricky if the dress is tighter since you will see the outline of the top, so go with a looser dress. And the dress needs to be sleeveless otherwise it will look quite silly. Have a little fun with the length though. You can wear turtlenecks with dresses ranging from mini to maxi lengths. I have included a couple pictures at the beginning for a little inspiration. Imagine a sleeveless mauve colored knee or minidress with a black turtleneck and boots. Definitely a fun twist for your winter outfits!

As for shoes to pair with winter dresses your best options will be some type of heeled boot. Whether it be a bootie, knee high or over the knee boot this is the easiest choice to dress up your winter outfits. Of course, if you are going to work a heel will be a great go-to. For a more casual dress outfit pair the dress with a lug sole or combat style boot for an on the go look. And the most fun of them all will be a cowboy boot ?

Now do you have your winter dresses picked out? I have mine and a couple new styles I want to try. I am most looking forward to a silky shirtdress and some type of cozy sweater dress to wear with cowboy boots.
