Winter in Paris

I am feeling quite inspired with the new season of Emily in Paris coming out. Boy oh boy did I love watching that show especially as a sort of escapism during the pandemic. This show reminded me of how beautiful and magnificent the city and fashion are. One of my fondest memories is spending a few weeks in Paris a couple years ago during wintertime. Now let’s talk about that Parisian fashion.

I have always felt inspired by Parisian fashion and visiting Paris only heightened my feelings for their simplistic yet beautiful style. I remember feeling as if I was blending in perfectly as a Parisian with my bangs and simple looks (I may have even been mistaken as a Parisian several times). There is no need for stilettos or high heels while walking the historic streets in Paris. Some may even consider it a little dangerous with the cobblestone streets, though not everywhere in the city it covers a significant amount. So, what shoes to wear? During wintertime there are three easy go-to options. First, is the sneaker. Stick with something simple and sleek. Perhaps a black leather sneaker or for a more athleisure style go with a New Balance sneaker. This option is best for a long day out exploring the city of lights. Second is the bootie or boot. You will need to go with a block heel to be as comfortable as possible. You can opt for a bootie or for a dressier look a knee-high boot is an essential for a winter day in the city. And, last but not least is the block heel pump. I am envisioning a Chanel rounded low pump, but of course if it is a long day out you may be opting for a less expensive option. Pair with a coat, check miniskirt, and tights for a feminine winter outfit.

Now that you have the most comfortable yet fashionable shoes on you are ready to hit the town but wait do not forget about your pants! Denim is the easiest choice to wear especially for travel as you can dress it up or down. Pair a long style of boyfriend jeans with the pumps for an effortlessly chic look or slip on with your sneakers for an on-the-go vibe. If you are wanting to do skinny jeans those will look great with the pumps for an evening out. My favorite option is a flowy pair of pants. Not only are flowy pants super comfortable, but they are a dressier option than your denim. You can pair them with booties, a fitted sweater, and long car coat for a day at the Musée d’Orsay soaking in all the beautiful artwork. Or go for the dressiest option of them all. The skirt. You can pair a miniskirt (perhaps tweed) with knee high boots or pumps or slip on a silk midi skirt with a sweater and knee-high boots. These options are best for a nice evening out. Now you are ready for some amazing French onion soup and a glass of red wine.

But wait do not forget your coat. For winter coats in Paris there are two possibly three main options. The first as mentioned in one of my previous posts is the car coat. This long coat is perfect for enduring a cold Paris winter day and is versatile for travelling. Dress this up with a blouse and skirt at night or pair with denim and sneakers for a day out. Next, is the trench. Similar in length to a car coat, but this coat is most known for having a tie waist for a bit of waist definition. You can go with a Burberry trench for a more spendy option or you can find several other classic, quality options around the $200 price range. And a trench coat is something you will have for years to come. Those would be my top two suggestions for a trip as they offer the most versatility; however, one other fun option to bring along to Paris is a faux fur coat. Out of all the options this would be the shortest style, so if you prefer something shorter this is the coat to go with. If you feel over the top with a faux fur coat you can also do a coat with fur trimmings. There are some amazing coat options right now with faux fur trimmings on the collar and cuffs of the jacket. Stick with a light tan color for this jacket and pair with a midi skirt or even a dress. Now that you have your coat option down you are ready to head into a cozy Paris café for a cup of coffee or yummy hot chocolate, or better yet a night seeing the beauty of the city.

And finally, to complete the outfit are accessories. Before diving into accessories, I must make a quick note about tops. Stick with the classics for example a slimming turtleneck, a cotton button down, or a patterned blouse. If you want to be a bit more fashionable wear a puff sleeve top or pair the button down with a sweater vest. Okay on to accessories. You will want to keep things simple in this area. Perhaps a solid or plaid scarf will be your best bet for keeping your neck warm. And, for a hat go with my all time favorite, a bucket hat. A faux fur bucket hat is once again the ultimate item for a chic on the go look. If you prefer something more casual stick with a classic cashmere beanie in perhaps a grey or cream. Lastly, a pair of leather gloves in brown or black to complete your winter wonderland outfit.

You are now ready to hit the streets of Paris in style. Grab your coat, booties, flowy pants, a pop of color cashmere sweater, and neutral accessories for a day to night winter look in Paris.
