Continuing from my previous post there are a few key essential shoes and accessories for winter 2021. I could go on and on about shoes but will limit this piece to three staples for this season and several must have accessories. Shoes and accessories are what will help take your outfits to the next level, so make sure not to skimp in this area!
Three essential shoes for this season are knee high boots, chunky loafers, and high-top sneakers. I wanted to give an array of styles that can be dressed up for work or worn casually for weekend wear. First and most definitely my favorite is knee high boots, probably because they are très chic. Three-inch heels will get the job done with these beauties, but shorter heels are also very in style right now. You can purchase these in anything from a nice cognac suede to a black leather option. Pair these boots with a plaid mini skirt or a silk midi skirt and sweater for a dressy everyday winter look. Or these boots even look amazing with flowy midi dresses. And don’t forget to layer with a long coat to pull together your outfit!
Second, are loafers. Loafers are a timeless pair of shoes to have in your wardrobe. Over the past several years menswear inspired loafers have become mainstream. And, within the past year or two chunky loafers have entered the scene. There are chunky loafers ranging from slightly obnoxious to a little more luxe (such as the infamous Prada loafers). These beautiful loafers can easily be paired with a tailored pants and your favorite blazer for work or you can wear them with a patterned sock (snag a little inspiration from an argyle sock, but not quite a full schoolgirl look). When paired with a funky sock you can wear a loose somewhat cropped denim, graphic tee, and oversized blazer for a ‘model off duty’ vibe. Another option when wearing with the socks is a miniskirt and cashmere sweater with a baguette in hand. If you are wanting to try this trend but a little skeptical go with a simple black or neutral option otherwise if you are all in, you can try a funky color block loafer for a little extra pop. The options are endless!
And last but not least are high top sneakers. These have been in style for around two to three years now. However, they are becoming more commonplace nowadays. Splurge on a pair of Golden Goose sneakers for at least $500, but if dirtied sneakers are not quite your thing you can go with a classic pair of Converse. I personally have my eyes on a mid-pink pair of Converse. They are so effortless and not an outrageous price. For a little contrast pair, the Converse with a flowy floral dress. And if you end up going with a trendier pair, they are super easy to style with a tee and boyfriend or straight leg jeans. These are perfect for everyday casual looks or a weekend out exploring the city.
Accessories – oh my!
Currently the easiest accessory to dress up any of your outfits is with a shoulder bag. Though small this style of bag is mighty in adding the perfect amount of flare to your outfits. Designers such as Gucci and Saint Laurent have nailed down the luxury market for this bag. If going with a designer option stick with a classic all black shoulder bag for a timeless look you will most likely circle back to in 30 years. If wanting to explore this bag for the first time go with a fabulous burgundy for winter! Burgundy is a luxe color that is a must for pairing with winter neutrals such as a camel coat. Oh, and most of these bags will have a chain as a strap, which adds the perfect amount of detailing to such a small bag. Right now, I am loving the tweed options out there. So, fun for a classic winter outfit!
The next accessory on the list for this season is a mid-size silk scarf. Mini silk scarfs have always been an easy accessory to tie around your neck or bag for some extra flair. So, why not try a larger style this season! The luxurious material of silk around your neck is not only comfortable for you, but it will bring on comments from the passerby. Go with a beautiful rust color if you are wanting a colorful option otherwise a dark grey would look fabulous with your winter outfits. Simply fold the scarf in half, so it is the size of a triangle and loosely tie it around your neck. If you are feeling adventurous pair it with a turtleneck top.
Lastly, we cannot forget about jewelry. Though I do love a layered necklace ensemble it is easiest to focus on earrings during the winter. Especially in cold places when bundled up in layers we would never be able to see the beautiful, layered necklaces. So, for winter focus on a nice pair of hoop earrings. Hoops made way back into the fashion scene around six or so years ago. Starting from a larger size and slowly becoming smaller. Nowadays a chunkier hoop is in style and I will say it now, but I think silver jewelry is making a comeback. These days you can look left and right and all you will see is gold jewelry, but I am seeing more silver styles around and am enjoying the variety. Wear these chunky hoops alone or if you have multiple piercings you can wear them with mismatching earrings for a somewhat edgy look. Oh, the things I consider edgy!
These do not encompass all the winter accessory trends for the season. I do not have enough room to write about all of them! But I believe these are the easiest pieces to take your outfits to the next level, and there are so many options for variety such as the design on a pair of sneakers or pattern of a scarf. Leave a comment below if you think there is something, I missed that you are looking forward to wearing this winter!
