Spring is right around the corner and what better way to prepare for spring than updating your denim! Winter mostly focuses on darker washes, (though I found myself not really caring about washes this past season) so now it is time to break out the lighter washes. Not only is it time for lighter washes but bring out those different fits for jeans as well. What are we waiting for let’s dig into springs best denim options!
First, are different fits for this season. I think the style that is picking up momentum this year is the 90s loose fit. These baggy jeans look amazing on the models, but I am a little skeptical of how they would look on me. I have no doubt they are probably some of the comfiest jeans out there but styling them is another story. If you are into more of a tomboy vibe slip them on with a high-top pair of Nike sneakers and a cropped graphic tee. For a more feminine touch stick with a bodysuit and a fabulous pair of heels, and don’t forget a clutch for a date night look. I have yet to try these jeans because I am not sure how practical they are for my lifestyle, but if I find a stunning pair and actually love the fit of them then I may bite the bullet. Alright let’s move on to some easy to wear options.
Another popular option for this upcoming spring is the slit hem denim. Now I have seen the slit hem on leggings, leather pants, and trousers, which is why I am not surprised that it is taking over the denim scene. There is actually quite a bit of variety when it comes to the slit hem. As far as fit it can be on a slimmer fit, but most likely you will see this on a bootcut or straight fit pair of jeans. And, for the slit it can be very minimal or large for a more extreme look. Also, there is the placing of the slit. Typically, the slit will be in the front of the denim, but I have found some sneaky pairs with the slit on the side. I personally think the slit in the front is a more fun option to go with when it comes to these jeans, but if you are not sure if you are on board with this trend then ease into it with a side slit pair of denim. Now you can wear these jeans with sneakers, I am not going to stop you, but I am going to recommend you wear these with some type of heel. Whether that heel is a bootie for an everyday look or a heeled sandal for an evening out that is totally up to you. Oh, and these would look amazing with a patterned mesh top.
The next fit has been around for a little while, so if you don’t already have a pair of straight leg jeans in your wardrobe now is the season to grab them. Straight leg jeans are so versatile and comfortable. These are probably the easiest to style out of the other options, and it really depends on the length of the jeans for how best to style them. If you are comfortable wearing a full-length pair of straight leg jeans with sneakers, then go for it, but sometimes I feel like it is drowning me when I do this, which is why I prefer a slightly cropped option for pairing with sneakers. Cropped really looks best with any type of flat shoe, i.e., loafers or a mule. And the full-length pairs best with you guessed it, booties, heels etc. These jeans can be dressed down with a graphic tee or up with a blazer and crisp button down. But there are a couple more factors to look into when deciding if these are the jeans for you.
You have picked out the style you want to try this season, so now what? Well, let’s move into washes for this season. For winter I saw lot of washed black jeans, not grey and not really black. I believe this color will carry well into spring as a great alternative to black jeans. This is definitely a more casual wash to pair with tees or a sweater. And the most worn wash for this season will easily be light wash jeans. This is my favorite all year round, but the light wash is easiest to wear in spring and summer months. I mean who wants to wear dark wash jeans during these months, not me.
Okay you have your light wash spring jeans in hand, now there are a couple must haves to pair them with. As for tops pick out a bright pink or blue sweater, maybe even go for one with a modern pattern. Or go with a crisp white button down, tucked or untucked if you are feeling a little adventurous. And I am sure I will be chatting a lot more about spring shoes in a future post, so I do not want to go into too much detail. But there are a couple staples to keep in mind when wearing your new denim. A bootie is the easiest, most obvious option. A chunky loafer is your next best bet. And, last is a sneaker for a more casual vibe. Now you are all set to go.
Be a little risky this spring and try some new styles you may not usually go for. It will be great for having more variety in your wardrobe and it can put a little extra pep in your step to be trying something new. Let me know if you end up trying some new denim this season down below!
