The Case for the Bucket Hat
I know, I know it has been about two years since the bucket hat re-entered the fashion scene. And I cannot believe I ever had any doubts about the bucket hat. Like many fashion trends that make their way back around I was a little skeptical about this one, as the last time I was wearing a bucket hat it was bright yellow, covered in sunflowers, and I was probably four years old in a matching sundress. Nowadays bucket hats come in a much for fashionable array of fabrics and colors. From anything to leather, canvas with a designer logo, or my new personal favorite, faux fur. Putting this faux fur bucket hat on feels like such a luxury. Not only does it feel like a luxury I feel like a queen while wearing it.
How to Wear a Bucket Hat
Let me tell you how versatile bucket hats can be. You can first start off on the very casual side of things and purchase a canvas style bucket hat to wear to the beach. Sadly, this option would not work for myself as it would not offer me enough coverage from the sun. If you however do not need much coverage at the beach then go ahead and slip the hat on with a coverup, espadrilles, and straw tote for a day in the sun. Another option would be for an athleisure vibe. And the leather bucket hat would be the perfect piece to add a little spice to your athleisure ensemble. Throw the leather bucket hat on with your favorite denim, sneakers, and a cozy sweatshirt for the ultimate cool girl on the go look. Or go with my favorite, the faux fur option for a dressier look. Slip this faux fur hat on with a coat, leather pants, and booties for a chic everyday outfit. Oh, and one of the best parts is this hat comes in a range of prices. You can pick one up ranging anywhere from $20 for an inexpensive option if you are still unsure about the style or if you are ready to splurge you can pick up a designer option for around $700.
I remember when I first saw a faux leather bucket hat online, I immediately wanted to purchase it, but like most of my purchases I need the item to sit in my cart for two to three days before purchasing the special piece. I know this may sound terrible to some of you but let me tell you if you have an impulse buying problem this can be a great solution, though sometimes painful when the item is no longer available! Which is exactly what happened to me when I went back to purchase the hat a few days later and it was sold out. Oh, the horror! Little did I know that bucket hat was not meant for me because a better one was soon to come along. Merely a short two weeks later I was browsing for another leather bucket hat option, and lo and behold there it was the most beautiful faux fur bucket hat I had laid my eyes on. Well, I had my doubts. The hat seemed somewhat iffy online since there was no model wearing it. Don’t you hate when an item sits there lifeless in a blank setting. I tend to steer clear of these items, but for this hat I was willing to give it a chance. The package was delivered a couple days later, and upon putting the hat on I wanted to jump up and down (mentally or physically, I cannot remember which I did). The hat felt like a match made in heaven and something that lifted my spirits for the day.
I believe the first day I wore the infamous hat out I was simply going to the grocery store. But, hey these days I tend to get dressed up for anything. I remember two years ago I would venture to the grocery store in sweats or an athletic getup. You cannot catch me doing that these days though (okay, well most of these days)! Any who, I slipped the hat on with an all-neutral look of brown and black pieces, yes, you heard me right, you can wear brown and black pieces together! This is one of those rules I have heard people talk about in the past, and it simply makes my blood boil. Like why can one not wear these colors together! Come on, people! I’m getting way off topic, so we will save that discussion for another post. Back to my outfit, I wore a brown leather jacket and pants with black booties and a turtleneck. I’m really digging the brown leather pieces these days! And the bucket hat of course pulled the entire look together. Accessories are ultimately the pieces which help put a simple outfit over the top.
To Purchase or Not?
Should you get a bucket hat? Yes, yes you absolutely should! You see I recently moved to the East Coast from a very warm climate and needed a hat for the winter. The obvious option is a beanie, but honestly, I do not think I am feeling beanies very much this season (we’ll see when winter comes around). I do think this is a great alternative/more fashionable option to a beanie this year. And, if you do not live in a cold climate then go with a cute canvas or leather one or for goodness sakes get a fur one! Do what you want! In the end if you do get one you will not regret it. Have a little fun with your outfits and feel a little over the top in a good way even if it is not usually your go-to style.
And, you know what one of the best parts about a bucket hat is? Like most hats a bucket hat is perfect for those bad hair days or days you don’t want to wash your hair!
